    Dear Dr. Dressler,
My 5 year old basset hound has a hard lump under her eye. The vet took x-rays of it and said she has bone cancer. Can a vet just tell this from x-rays ?Were so upset the first vet thought she had a bad tooth her teeth are fine. Now bone cancer am so confused. The only way they can biopsy it, is to drill a hole into it because its a hard bone there. I don’t no if we should put her through this and stress her out. Other wise she’s fine. Also this vet feels if they do surgery she will loss her eye because its so close to her eye socket. HELP what to do. Thanks, Kristen

    dear dr.

my dog is approximately 10 or 11. she is a black lab. she has had a lump for a little while now; but lately its is bigger, and red at the site. it looks like it may have been bleeding also. i am concerned it may be cancer. is there a way to tell? is it usaully a different color as previously was? thank you; i appreciate your time

      Dear Kathy,
it is critical you get your dog’s lump tested at the veterinarian’s. Some lumps in senior dogs are dangerous.
      Best,
      Dr D
