Should I Enter My Dog in a Clinical Trial?

Updated: May 17th, 2021

Summary

There may be a clinical trial that could help your dog. Is it worth it? How do you find one? Dr. Trina Hazzah advises on clinical trials for dogs.

Last year, Alecia enrolled her dog in the Vaccine Against Canine Cancer Study (VACCS) at Colorado State University.

She’s not sure whether her Scottie got the placebo or the actual vaccine, so it’s hard to tell how it affected him.

BUT … all the extra vet visits (and the free care extended to study participants) made for super-early detection of a mast cell tumor.

And the staff at CSU took care of EVERYTHING with no cost to Alecia.

She may never know whether he got the vaccine or not, but she does know one thing:

Getting free cancer treatment for her dog was well worth it!

Alecia called in and left her update on our Listener Line, and it sparked a great conversation here. So we asked Dr. Trina Hazzah, an integrative oncologist, to join us for this week’s episode of Dog Cancer Answers. She and host James Jacobson discuss everything clinical trials for dogs. It’s a wide-ranging, interesting discussion.

If you are near a big veterinary hospital, or if you are looking to help find cures and treatments, this episode is a great listen.

You can read the transcript on the episode page on the Dog Cancer Answers website.
