Tell Your Dog’s True Tail

Hello, Dear Guardian!

Over the years we have heard from tens of thousands of dog lovers who were eager to share their own “true tail” of dog cancer. We all remember what it’s like when we first hear the dreaded words “your dog has cancer” — and those of us who like to write often want to offer comfort, perspective, and hope to other dog lovers going through the same thing.

Never doubt that there is an audience eager and waiting to hear from someone who’s been through this — there is!

In that spirit, we’ve started to formally collect “True Tails” and publish them so others can benefit.

To submit your own True Tail, please fill out the form below, and we will contact you to go over your submission.

There are some topics that we’ve found can help you get started. In general, people want to hear about dogs with the same exact diagnosis their own dog is facing — or, the opposite: they want to read EVERYTHING. The smallest detail — no matter how insignificant or silly it might be to you — may be helpful to someone else. So include everything you can think of, and we’ll help to edit and shape your story. Here are some questions to get started:

  • What is your dog’s name, breed, and age?
  • What was the diagnosis, and what tests were run to get to it?
  • What was the prognosis — ie, how long did your veterinarian think they dog had, with and without treatment?
  • Did your veterinarian offer any treatment options, and which ones?
  • At what point in this process did you first read The Dog Cancer Survival Guide?
  • How did the book help you and/or your veterinarian?
  • What specific things (treatments, strategies, mindsets, diets — whatever) seemed to help your dog most?
  • Knowing what you know now, what would you tell someone else who is dealing with dog cancer?
